Here we aim to compile a comprehensive archive of archaeological sites to be found within the Ribble Valley and Forest of Bowland AONB.

This is in response to the current policy of Lancashire County Council to prevent any direct access by the general public to information contained within the Lancashire Historic Environment Record (HER).

The current position as of 20/11/23 is to quote Lancashire County Council's  Historic Environment Record web page is "Access to the Lancashire Historic Environment Record (HER) is available and any visits to inspect the HER should always be arranged in advance, as there is no dedicated public access terminal, and the HER has to be searched and material extracted by a Lancashire County Council staff member."

Some of the information contained within the Lancashire HER can be found on the Historic England Heritage Gateway https://www.heritagegateway.org.uk/gateway/

Because of the potentially sensitive nature of this type of information and the risk from treasure hunters the location of some sites and details may be restricted, but we do aim to make as much information freely available as possible.
